Allocate is encouraging all customers to take time to review the new toolkit by NHS Improvement designed to help organisations deliver effective staff banks.

The toolkit builds on the three priorities that NHS Improvement highlighted at the Allocate User Conference in October:

  1. Improve existing banks
  2. Extend scope of medical banks
  3. Promote collaborative approaches

It highlights five principles of effective banks and provides guidance on how to adhere to these:

  1. Governance: Ensuring temporary staff are only used when necessary
  2. An integrated approach: Ensuring the technology is in place to enable a streamlined end-to-end process from rostering to booking across permanent and temporary staff
  3. Flexible staff offer: Ensuring the bank works around its staff and provides an attractive offer for flexible working
  4. Recruitment: Ensuring an active recruitment strategy onto the bank
  5. Engagement: Ensuring buy-in from staff across departments and disciplines

Allocate welcomes the document and in particular the focus on ensuring that bank is built on effective e-Rostering and that organisations embrace flexible and staff friendly practises to encourage bank growth.
